Upper body exercises
This exercise program is designed for anyone:
- With an arm that is limited by tone (too much or too little), decreased strength, and decreased range of motion
- Looking for ways to improve strength and range of motion in their affected arm
- Who can follow directions to achieve proper positioning
What you will need:
- A firm surface to sit on, such as your bed, couch, or chair
- A rod, such as shower rod, cane, broom stick, or therapy bar
- Exercise cuff, ace wrap, or sock to fasten hand to rod
- Washcloth to build up under the rod to make it easier to grasp
- A helper to put your arm in the correct position or help you move to different positions
Low-impact weight-bearing exercises
This exercise program is designed for anyone:
- With an arm that is limited by tone (too much or too little) and decreased strength
- Looking for ways to improve strength and muscle tone in their affected arm
- Anyone who can follow directions to achieve the right positioning
What you will need:
- A supportive chair with back support
- A firm surface, such as your bed, couch, or chair
- A book to place your hand on if the surface is too soft
- A surface to lean forward on, such as a table
- Weight-bearing paddle, washcloth, or half-foam ball, if needed
- A helper to put your arm in the correct position or help you transfer to different position
