Diaphragm pacing system troubleshooting guide

How to troubleshoot the diaphragm pacer system. First column is the problem that needs to be addressed and second column is the action steps that should be taken.
Problem Action
Pacing of the diaphragm stops. Check the connections of the electrode wires to the connector holder.
Check the connection of the patient cable to the connector holder.
Check the connection of the patient cable to the stimulator.
Patient is not receiving adequate ventilation. Disconnect the stimulator and return the patient to a ventilator.
Patient discomfort during pacing. Contact the doctor.
The stimulator program may need adjustment.
Bleeding, bruising, or infection of the electrode site(s). Contact the doctor.
Patient feels pain at the electrode site. Disconnect the stimulator first.
Next, call the doctor.
Patient has skin irritation or hypersensitivity to stimulation. Contact the doctor.
Multiple “X”s appear on the stimulator display. Disconnect the patient cable from the stimulator and insert test plug.
If problems continue, contact medical professional.
The stimulator is exposed to substantial amount of water or fluid. Disconnect the stimulator first, then contact medical professional.
A continuous audio alarm sounds during the inspiration interval. Check the connections of the electrode wires to the connector holder.
Check the connection of the patient cable to the connector holder.
Check the connection of the patient cable to the stimulator.
The stimulator beeps every hour. The stimulator is running on its internal battery. Replace the battery.
The stimulator beeps every minute. The stimulator is running on its internal battery and the internal battery is getting low.
Replace the battery immediately.
