Securing ventilator tubes

Sometimes vent tubing may pop off the end of the tracheostomy tube. There are commercial devices available to help keep the vent tubing in place, as well as simple interventions such as positioning or use of a rubber band.

Please ask your doctor and/or respiratory therapist about what techniques to use.

Using a rubber band to secure vent tubbing

Here’s an example of how to use a rubber band to secure vent tubing to the trach tube.

Loop rubber band

Loop a rubber band to secure it to the trach. This is easier to do before attaching the trach ties.
